Aircons and Positivity

Terry’s roommate was humming to himself, again. It was a sweltering day and he still managed to stay positive. She gritted her teeth, feeling annoyed. Even more annoyed by the fact that she would feel mean if she complained about it. After all, what was wrong with him being happy all the time?

The summer heat was making it hard to calm down. Taking an ice pack from the freezer and fanning herself with her shirt, she hoped to find some escape. “I’m chucking on the aircon,” she said weakly, stumbling over to the couch and sitting down.

It took all of her strength to pry herself off the leather couch enough to grab the remote, her sweaty back already clinging to the fabric, and turn the unit on. It blinked awake happily. She smiled and sat back down, holding the ice to her head. The best thing they ever did was to invest in the air conditioning installation. Cheltenham could get extremely hot when the sun was out.

Sweat dripped down her face. The rushing relief of the aircon should have washed over her. It didn’t. She glanced up at the unit. The red light had stopped blinking. A drop of water was leaking from the side of the A/C. That couldn’t be good. “How do you know if your air conditioner is broken?”

“Coming,” he called back. Her roommate’s whistling paused as he came into the room. He didn’t answer her question, but instead inspected the machine. With a low, short whistle, he clasped his hands together.

Booking air conditioning repair near Armadale… Not what I had in mind to do today,” he pondered before his eyes lit up, “but I do love a good phone call!”

With a spring in his step, he rushed over to the unit. Terry didn’t understand how he wasn’t melting from the heat, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered now was getting the aircon fixed and cooling again. Putting up with the constant, persistent cheeriness of her roommate meant that she didn’t need to move herself to get it fixed.

She decided his whistling wasn’t so bad as long as this situation got fixed by that day.
